Possible Cougar Sightings in Gurnee

April 23rd, 2008

A second cougar sighting in as many days was reported Friday by police in Gurnee.

A large cat was seen approximately at 2:30 a.m. Friday in a wooded area in the 1500 block of Northwestern Avenue, near the railroad tracks, close to Pacific Avenue and Northwestern.

The animal was described as a large, long cat. Police could not confirm the sighting.

Gurnee police said if anyone sees an animal that appears to be a cougar, they should call 911 to report the sighting and location as soon as possible.

A security guard at Abbott Laboratories reported seeing a cougar near Buckley and Waukegan roads Thursday morning. The sighting in the business park near Waukegan was reported to sheriff’s police at 4:30 a.m. and deputies searched the area for about 40 minutes but did not find anything.

Chicago police shot and killed a cougar in the Roscoe Village neighborhood Monday afternoon. In previous weeks, residents in Wilmette, North Chicago and Round Lake Park reported seeing a large cat-like animal.

If there is another one, I hope its fate won’t be the same as the one killed in Roscoe Village.

Why do people have to call the police evrytime they see a coyote, cougar, etc.? as long as they stay within their natural habitat and don’t target humans, LEAVE THEM ALONE. We already exterminated them from Illinois once, now that they’re making a slow come back, they want to hunt them down again. Cougars keep lyme desease down by controlling deer over population, therefore, benefiting us.
